According to TV Line, actors Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols have announced their departure from the show after season four. Ulrich played F.P. Jones, the father of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), and Nichols played Hermione Lodge, the mother of Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes).
Riverdale has been on the air since the beginning of 2017 and featured a reimagining of the characters from the classic Archie Comics. Both Ulrich and Nichols have been on the series since the first season.
In a statement provided to TV Line, Ulrich stated, “I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis. I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind. But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”
Nichols stated, “I had an incredible time bringing Hermione lodge to life and working with my amazing cast, who became family. We had so many wonderful times together during the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We really do have the best fans ever. I am looking forward to the next chapter and am excited about the future.”
Both departures have also been confirmed by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “Part of life in Riverdale’– and part of growing up – is saying goodbye to people: I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavors. F.P. and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in Riverdale.”
Ulrich will be moving on to co-star in the film, Bios set to release later this year whilst Nichols will be starring in Spiral, the ninth film in the Saw franchise, this May.
Currently, no information has been revealed as to how each character will be written out of the show. Season 4 of Riverdale is currently airing Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
