If a Simpsons-Family Guy crossover episode was not enough to bring out inner fandom, prepare for a Simpsons-Futurama crossover coming in 2014. The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean disclosed of the crossover July 20 at the San Diego Comic-Con.
“It is slated to air on Fox as either the season 25 finale in May 2014 or as the season 26 premiere in fall 2014,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
The focal point of the episode will revolve around the idiotic shenanigans of Bart and Bender. “Bender has to come back from the future to kill Bart because there’s something that Bart does now that makes the future really, really, really bad,” Jean said.
Applying Futurama characters to the Simpson’s world has more than one benefit for the writers of The Simpsons. “…Their show lends itself to any variety of plot lines. By having them on, we have a little freedom… The biggest thrill for me is that we don’t have to adjust the animation style,” Jean said.
This will mark Bender’s second appearance on the show, who was featured briefly in season sixteen in a scene set in the future.
Other guest stars for the upcoming season will include Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Elisabeth Moss, Stan Lee and Harlan Ellison, IGN reported.
