Yellowjackets‘ third season will be released in 2025, Deadline reports. The Showtime series has been having many production delays throughout this past year because of the WGA strike from last May. The writer’s room opened again in September, though, and officially began production.
The story of Yellowjackets, according to Deadline, is focused on teenagers who team up after surviving a plane crash in 1996 and suffer the consequences of the accident years later. The series has a very large number of people in their cast since the show jumps from 2021 to 1996 in different flashbacks. Therefore, for each era, different cast members are playing the characters.
In the present, the stars are Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant, Psycho Beach Party) as Van, Juliette Lewis (Natural Bron Killers, Cape Fear, From Dusk Till Dawn) as Natalie, Simone Kessell (Outlaws, Stickmen, Muru) as Lottie, Christina Ricci (Wednesday, The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow) as Misty, Melanie Lynskey (Coyote Ugly, Heavenly Creatures, Candy) as Shauna, and Tawny Cypress (Remains, Unforgettable, The Blacklist: Redemption) as Taissa.
In the 1996 flashbacks, the team includes Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream V, For The People, Sound of Violence), Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief, Aller Simple, The Kid Detective) Samantha Hanratty (Shameless, Seeds Of Yesterday, Salem), Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman, The Book of Boba Fett, Blink), Courtney Eaton (Gods of Egypt, Status Update, Line of Duty) and Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet, Let It Snow, Dramaworld). In the show, one actress from season one was recast for the flashback episodes in season two. This was Keeya King (Anatomy of Assistance, Van Helsing, Brown Girl Begins) being replaced by Nia Sondaya (Truth Be Told, Heart Shot) for the character of Akilah in the second season.
The show was co-created and co-executive produced by Ashley Lyle (Narcos: Mexico, Narcos, Dispatches from Elsewhere) and Bart Nickerson (The Originals, Narcos, Narcos: Mexico, Dispatches from Elsewhere). The series has premiered in 2021 on Showtime and it has, since then, received many awards and positive reviews from critics, via Deadline. The awards have been seven Primetime Emmy Awards nominations in the first two seasons only, which include one for Outstanding Drama Series, lost to the HBO’s series Succession.
The first two seasons of Yellowjackets are now available to stream on Showtime.
