Showtime’s Prequel Series ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Adds Sarah Michelle Gellar To The Cast

Dexter: Original Sin has added a fan-beloved actress to its already stellar cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Scooby Doo II: Monsters Unleashed), Comicbook.com reports. The network released the news yesterday via social media post, shown below, teasing her role to be will be Chief Tanya Martin. Gellar is joined by Christian Slater (Heathers, Interview With the Vampire), who portrays the character of Harry Morgan, Dexter’s dad; Patrick Gibson (The OA, Shadow And Bone), who leads the series with the character of young Dexter; Patrick Dempsey (Made Of Honor, Grey’s Anatomy), who plays Aaron Spencer; and Molly Brown (The Good House, Senior Year), who portrays the character of Dexter’s sister, Debra Morgan.

Chris McCarthy (The T Word, Out of Iraq, Quiet Campus), the President of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks, shared how excited he is to explore this series and give the best to fans who loved the original series, Dexter.

“The Dexter saga has been an undeniable creative and popular success for Showtime, both in its original, groundbreaking form and the record-setting Dexter: New Blood,” McCarthy explained, via Comicbook.com. He shared plans for more spinoffs of Dexter in the future.

“The series is a rich foundation for other shows in the lane of complex, subversive antiheroes that Showtime has always done so brilliantly. Clyde is deep into compelling stories and characters that will satisfy the cravings of our multifaceted audience.”

When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Dexter: Original Sin is produced by the companies Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones, The Following), Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Gamer, Six Feet Under), Mary Leah Sutton (Resident Evil, Tell Me A Story), Tony Hernandez (Emily In Paris, Younger, Broad City), Lilly Burns (Russian Doll, Search Party) are the official executive producers of the series. Producer for the show is Robert Lloyd Lewis (The Lincoln Lawyer, Method & Red). Michael Lehmann (Heathers, American Horror Story), will be the directing executive producer for the series.

Deadline has shared that production for the show has begun in Miami. Additional cast members for the show are James Martinez (Love, Victor), Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love), Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly), and Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist). Martinez will be portraying a homicide detective who is currently beginning his career in the crime field, Milian is a female homicide detective who is the first and most important in the department, Wilson will be portraying the partner of Dexter’s dad, and Shimizu will be playing the role of a forensic scientist who is overseeing the performance of the new intern, the lead character Dexter Morgan.

All six seasons of Dexter are now available to stream on Netflix. Dexter: Original Sin will be premiering on Paramount+, but there is no official release date for the series yet.
