There are very few shows that can continually improve year in and year out, but Billions continues to impress each and every season. Now, the critically acclaimed show is onto part two of season five, releasing the trailer today via the Showtime press release. The series, which runs on Showtime, has a host of talent returning including Paul Giamatti (Sideways) and Damian Lewis (Homeland).
The second half of season five can be most perfectly summed up by the conversation between Lewis’ Bobby Axlerod and Ben Kim, played by Daniel K. Isaac (The Other Two). Axlerod asks, “Do you know what time it is?” The young trader, Kim, responds, “It’s time to put my big boy pants on.” It is most definitely time for fans to put their big boy pants on. Billions has slowly been boiling to another big moment, and as the characters continue to get squeezed in, a ticking time bomb has formed. Part two of season five might be the perfect time for it to go off.
It has been over a year since the last episode aired, and fans are chomping at the bit to see what is next in the feud between Axlerod and Giamatti’s Chuck Rhoades. The trailer seems to tease a new weapon for Rhodes in his battle. A young, powerful billionaire by the name of Mike Prince, played by Corey Stoll (Ant-Man), is in town to mess everything up for Axe Capital. The new threat leads to plenty of alliances which are quickly broken and reformed as the landscape shifts.
Elsewhere, Asia Kate Dillon’s (Orange Is the New Black) Taylor, still CIO of her own hedge fund, Taylor Mason Capital, is roped back into the mess in the new season. It is unknown how that will happen, but when you are the portegee of Bobby Axlerod, all bets are off. Also, Chuck’s wife Wendy, played by Maggie Siff (Sons of Anarchy) will also be pulled into the mix. Both characters have been applauded by critics so it only makes sense that they should be featured more heavily by the show.
The new season will also star David Costabile (Breaking Bad) as Mike Wagner, Condola Rashad (Steel Magnolias) as Kate Sacker, and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Walking Dead) as Charles Rhoades Sr. Jeanane Garafolo will also play a guest role this season as the hip owner of a legal cannabis corporation.
The second part of season five of Billions will air on September 5th on Showtime. Keep an eye out for more information as the release date nears.
