Showtime has announced a new limited series called Ghosts of Beirut, which follows the true story of the search for the world’s most elusive terrorist. The drama series will delve into the complex manhunt and the individuals involved. According to a SHOWTIME press release, Ghosts of Beirut will make its debut on non-linear platforms on Friday, May 19, 2023, and will premiere on-air on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 10 pm EST/PST.
Recounting the true events of the manhunt, the upcoming limited series follows the story of Mughniyeh, aka “The Ghost,” a 21-year-old notorious Lebanese terrorist who evaded capture by the CIA and Mossad for two decades and was responsible for more American deaths than any other individual before 9/11. The limited series follows Mughniyeh’s origins from the Shiite slums of South Beirut to his rise as the world’s most dangerous terrorist, tracing his masterminding of suicide bombers and featuring perspectives from the American, Israeli, and Lebanese sides. Through real-life interviews with officials from the CIA and Mossad and based on classified events, the series connects the turmoil of 1980s Beirut to the modern-day Middle East.
According to Variety, starring in this limited series is Iddo Goldberg (Snowpiercer, Peaky Blinders), Dina Shihabi (Daredevil, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Rafi Gavron (Godfather of Harlem, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Hisham Suleiman (Munich, Fauda), Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave, Deadwood), Amir Khoury (Fauda, Image of Victory), and Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding, August: Osage County).
Ghosts of Beirut was created by Avi Issacharoff (Fauda, Hit & Run) and Lior Raz (Hit & Run, Fauda). Executive producing the series is Daniel Dreifuss (No, A Bundle of Sticks) and Greg Barker (The Final Year, Manhunt: The Inside Story of the Hunt for Bin Laden), who directs all four episodes, according to Forbes.
Catch Ghosts of Beirut on non-linear platforms on Friday, May 19, 2023, or on-air on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 10 pm EST/PST.
