Showtime has released their second official trailer for Jim Carrey’s new upcoming series Kidding. This will be Carrey’s first regular series role in more than twenty years. Showtime showcased the new trailer and new posters for the upcoming half hour comedy show at the TCA. The new trailer starts off with Carrey saying, “There’s a spark of greatness inside each and every one of us. In you, in me, there’s a lovely light, that can never go out.”
Here is the new trailer:
While there is for sure a spark in the trailer, it might not be the same spark Carrey is referencing. This is emphasized from the very start with the first thing a teacher saying being, “Shut up.” Throughout the video Carrey’s character steadily starts to lose it. During the restaurant scene he even says that, “I have a tremendous amount of pent up anger inside me…” He even shaves the top of his head. There is also this very kid friendly tone with the puppets and music mixed in with adult content giving it to help showcase the satire that the show will probably become. There is a moment where we see his character in prison during the trailer as well.
Carrey will play as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, and he will be the main character in the show. He is a children’s television icon, which is where the puppets and music comes into play. His built up anger is contrasted with him being seen as a beacon of kindness and wisdom for both children and those that grew up watching him. The problem is, is that his life shatters and no fairy tale, fable or puppet can help him during his personal crisis.
