Showtime has just released the first trailer for their new and upcoming financial drama, Billions (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The show is centered around Emmy award winners Paul Giamatti (John Adams) and Damian Lewis (Homeland). Giamatti plays U.S attorney Chuck Rhoades who is on the hunt for hedge fund king Bobby Axelrod played by Damian Lewis. The two powerful financial figures will go head to head in the state of New York in this new Showtime drama. Billions will be taking on the political drama in the financial world. This will also mark the first time Damian Lewis has returned back to Showtime since his work with Homeland. Maggie Siff (Mad Men), Toby Leonard Moore (Daredevil), and David Costabile (Breaking Bad) also star in Billions.
In a press release the president of Showtime Inc. (David Nevins) made a statement about Billions, saying that the “dynamic star pairing of Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis is matched by an equally exciting team in the writing of this show”. Brian Koppelman (Solitary Man), David Levien (The Illusionist), and Andrew Ross Sorkin (Too Big to Fail) are all executive producers and writers for the show. The pilot was directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist). Nevins also stated that Andrew Ross Sorkin is an accomplished financial journalist who will team up with Levien and Koppelman to “tackle an incredibly timely and buzzy subject” (via Variety).
Billions will premiere in 2016 and was picked up for a twelve episode first season. Showtime picking up Billions continues the network’s streak of only one pilot not making it to series since 2010 (via Deadline).
You can watch Billions sometime in 2016 on Showtime.
