Showtime Green-Lights Pilot ‘Let The Right One In’

Showtime has ordered a series pilot for Let the Right One in, based on the Swedish novel and film, and released in 2004 and 2008, respectively, according to a network press release. The series will follow Mark, played by Demián Bichir (A Better Life), and his 12-year-old vampire daughter Eleanor. Consumed by the consequences of a vampire bite ten years earlier, Eleanor is forced to live an isolated life while she only goes out at night and her father attempts to provide her with a minimal amount of human blood in order to keep her alive.

Oscar-nominated Bichir is most well known for his role in A Better Life, for which he was the first Mexican-born actor to be nominated in his category since Anthony Quinn (Zorba the Greek). More recently, Bichir is featured in a number of films, including George Clooney’s (Ocean’s ElevenThe Midnight Sky, Robin Wright’s (House of Cards), Land, and the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong. Following her announcement of the series adaptation, Showtime’s Executive Vice President of Scripted Programming Amy Israel stated, “Let the Right One In quickly establishes itself as a thrilling, high-stakes drama that asks the question: How far would you go to save your child from the monsters out there – would you risk becoming a monster yourself?” per a Showtime press release. The series hones in on themes such as human frailty, compassion, and strength.

Meanwhile, award-winning playwright, writer, and producer who will serve as showrunner and executive producer on this project, Andrew Hinderaker (Away), said that his upcoming series “is both a love letter to the original film and a story entirely our own. And casting a true artist like Demián epitomizes our bold aspiration to be one of the most terrifying shows on TV, and one of the most moving,” as reported by the press release.

Alongside Hinderaker, Let the Right One in is executive produced by Seith Mann (The Breaks), Marty Adelstein (Hanna), and Becky Clements (Snowpiercer). Bichir will also serve as a producer, as well as the lead.
