Showtime has released the trailer for its new series, The Man Who Fell to Earth, which will star Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange, 12 Years a Slave) and Naomie Harris (Moonlight, Skyfall). The series is set to have a two-episode premiere on April 24, according to a press release by Showtime.
Based on Walter Tevis’s (Mockingbird, The Queen’s Gambit) novel of the same name, The Man Who Fell to Earth follows an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his past to determine humanity’s future. The alien will encounter an engineer and scientist who will have to conquer her fears to save two worlds.
The new trailer features Harris’ Justin, a single mother struggling to make ends meet whose life changes after she encounters an alien, Farraday (Ejiofor). Throughout the trailer, Justin and her new alien acquaintance find themselves at odds with government figures who are trying to figure out who he is and what he is doing on Earth.
Alongside Ejiofor and Harris, the series will also star Jimmi Simpson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Sonya Cassidy (Lodge 49), Joana Ribeiro (Madre Paula), Annelle Olaleye (The Kid Who Would Be King), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager), Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods), and Bill Nighy (Love Actually).
The series was originally supposed to stream on Paramount+ in 2021 before being shifted to Showtime following the ViacomCBS merger in 2021.
Rola Bauer (Treasure Guards, Crossing Lines) and Francoise Guyonnet (Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy, Paddington 2) will serve as executive producers. Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) and Jenny Lumet (Q & A) will also executive produce, along with writing the series. Kurtzman directed several episodes of the series.
