Yesterday, Showtime announced that their series the Borgias will end with the third season.
The show created by Neil Jordan is filmed in Budapest, Hungary. Jeremy Irons stars as Pope Alexander VI, the patriarch of the Borgia dynasty.
In an interview with USA Today, Jordan says, “I never thought I would make a cable series and have enjoyed every minute of it. For a veriety of reasons we won’t be doing a fourth season but “The Prince” did seem like the end of a journey for the family. Whatever bonded them as a family dies in this episode, and the center of the drama for me was always with the family.”
The season finale titled “the Prince” shows Alexander and Cesare, played by Francois Arnaud, reconciled and taking steps to create a hereditary kingdom across Italy. The final episode will air June 16.
USA Today confirms that the Borgias was not one of Showtime’s most popular series. The last episode drew 804,000 viewers and has remained similar to last season.
