Showtime Acquires ‘Moonbase 8’ Starring Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, Jonathan Krisel, and John C. Reilly

The premium network Showtime has announced the acquisition of comedy series Moonbase 8 from Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live), Tim Heidecker (Bridesmaids, Us), Jonathan Krisel (Baskets), and John C. Reilly (Step Brothers, Gangs of New York), according to Deadline. Currently, the first season will consist of six episodes and will premiere on Showtime in Fall 2020. In addition to being created by the four, the series was written by Heidecker and Krisel with Armisen, Reilly, and Heidecker in the feature roles. The series is executive produced by Armisen, Heidecker, Krisel, Reilly, Eric Wareheim (Master of None), Dave Kneebone (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Nathan for You), and A24.

Moonbase 8 will center on three mediocre astronauts who are operating at the Moon Base Simulator for NASA in Arizona as they strive to be selected for a moon mission. The workplace comedy program, as mentioned before, stars Armisen as Skip, Heidecker as Rook, and Reilly as Cap. Currently, there are no announced additional cast members to the comedy program. President of Entertainment for Showtime Jana Winograde commented on the acquisition. “In a year when we have all been forced to come to terms with life in close quarters, we are happy to have landed this offbeat take on life in captivity with dreams of escaping to something grander,” she said via Deadline

There is currently no trailer for the series nor an estimated premiere date for its first season. However, the series completed all production prior to the Showtime acquisition and will be prepared to join the Showtime Fall lineup.
