Jon Hurwitz (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, American Reunion), showrunner and co-creator of Cobra Kai, shares that a spinoff is being worked on during the production of the final release per Comicbook. Season six part three releases on Netflix on February 13, 2025, the last remaining part of the series. Hurwitz hosted a Q&A on X to which a fan asked if there will be spin-offs on specific characters. He responded by saying, “I hope so.”

Fans speculated either that the spinoff explores characters in the college world, the younger characters becoming senseis or if the Karate Kid: Legends will add more to the Cobra Kai franchise. However, the last one was confirmed to be untrue as Hurwitz tweeted in 2022 that Legends “isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast.” Additionally, on the Sunday livestream, Hurtwitz commented “I haven’t seen the movie, but I heard Daniel LaRusso’s in it!” after being asked if Legends would mention the Netflix original. 

Comicbook has stated that both Hurtwitz and Ralph Macchio (The Outsiders, Eight is Enough), the actor of Daniel LaRusso, seem to be on the same page about how the pieces of media are not intertwined. Macchio even had a previous interview with Variety where he said that the two were from “separate ecosystems.” However, the director of the film Jonathan Entwistle (I am Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World) gave insight that the two are briefly related. The information was revealed via Entertainment Weekly as he stated he “had some really detailed conversations with the Cobra Kai team about just cool stuff that [they] can do in the movie and… make this whole thing feel holistic.” 

Cobra Kai has grown since its initial release on Youtube Red on May 2, 2018. With the show coming to an end on February 13 and the release of Kobra Kai: Legends on May 30, 2025, fans can expect an upcoming spin off of the franchise. All six seasons of Cobra Kai are available to stream on Netflix.
