Season two of The Other Black Girl on Hulu received an update from Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout, the series’ showrunners. Via Screenrant, “During a recent interview with Variety, Reddout and Hickey discussed the possibility of The Other Black Girl season 2. The showrunners expressed interest in continuing Nella’s story and added that, with the ongoing strikes, hopefully a deal will be made that allows it to happen.” Based on the novel of the same name, by Zakiya Dalila Harris, The Other Black Girl premiered its first season just three days ago, and has a more than positive response with an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The cast of the show includes Sinclair Daniel (Insidious: The Red Door) as Nella Rogers, an editorial assistant at Wagner Books. Nella is the only black woman at Wagner until they hire Hazel-May McCall, played by Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale). The two quickly form a friendship, but Nella becomes skeptical of Hazel when her advice gets Nella in trouble at work, around the same time she receives an anonymous message telling her to leave Wagner Books. Hazel, quickly becoming their bosses favorite, makes Nella question if Hazel is sabotaging her to move her way up the ladder. Other stars of the show include Bellamy Young (Scandal), Gracelle Beauvais (The Jamie Foxx Show), Hunter Parrish (17 Again), Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), and more.
Hulu released all ten episodes of the first season at the same time, on September 13, and according to Screenrant, The Other Black Girl, “explored racism and was praised for its overall tone and the performances of its cast.” The only possibility of a season two for The Other Black Girl would require the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes to come to an end first, and with an open-ended finale to the season, there is a lot for fans to look forward to for a season two.
