The sports drama All American first premiered on The CW network in October 2018. The fifth season aired in October 2022, and the series was renewed for a sixth season a few months later. According to Deadline, the executive producer and current showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll (Found, Rosewood) revealed what fans can expect in season six.
As Deadline notes, Carroll explained, “For Season 6…whether it be collegiate football, whether it be Layla’s music empire, whether it be Olivia as a journalist — the stakes both personally and career wise are much higher.”
Carroll also revealed to Deadline that the audience will be seeing a different side of these characters and “dealing with a much more mature versions of these characters who are, for some of them, really reconciling the new them and what this more mature version of them really wants for their futures.”
The series revolves around Spencer James, played by Daniel Ezra (Undercover, Murdered by My Boyfriend), who is recruited by the Beverly Hills High football team and must navigate a new city that differs from his hometown Crenshaw. As the series goes on, Spencer is faced with various hardships and difficult decisions, such as deciding which college is the best for him and his career goals.
In addition to Ezra, the cast of All American includes Samantha Logan (The Empty Man, Polaroid) as Olivia, Greta Onieogou (Fever Pitch, Undercover Grandpa) as Layla, Michael Evans Behling (The Flower That Never Wilts, A Cinderella Story: Starstruck) as Jordan, Bre-Z (Empire, 16 Bars) as Tamia, Cody Christian (The Starving Games, Teen Wolf) as Asher, and many more.
All American inspired the spinoff series All American: Homecoming, which was renewed for a third season in June 2023. The spinoff series follows tennis player Simone Hicks, played by Geffri Maya (LOCO, Private Practice), and baseball player Damon Sims, played by Peyton Alex Smith (The Quad, Legacies).
