‘Shogun’ Takes Home Three Wins From Screen Actors Guild Awards

The 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony was no surprise to audiences. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved actress Kristen Bell hosted Sunday’s event. Bell opened the ceremony with parody of the song she sings in Disney’s Frozen, “Do You Want To Build a Snowman?” Switching the lyrics to “Do you want to be an actor?” Not only was she the host, but Bell received a nomination for her show Nobody Wants This for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

Moving on to the winners from last night’s event. To start Shogun swept the awards with three trophies to take home. The show won Best Drama Series Ensemble. Following an award for Best Actress in Drama Series Anna Sawai (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), and Best Actor in Drama Series Hiroyuki Sanada (Bullet Train). Another popular series won two awards as well. Only Murders In The Building received Best Comedy Series Ensemble. With Martin Short (The Morning Show) taking home Best Actor in Comedy Series. Another actress who took home an award was Jessica Gunning (The Outlaws). Gunning won Best Actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series. Following in the same category Colin Farrell (The Batman) won best actor for The Penguin

The awards were a little different this year after the fires in Los Angeles delayed the live event. After the devastating effects, the guild took an opportunity to help those in need after the unexpected turn of events. Despite the delay, Netflix took on the celebration, airing it On Sunday, February 25th. In an article, The Hollywood Reporter shared the guild’s thought process when it came to seeking aid.  “Last month, the guild canceled its live, in-person nominees’ announcement due to the raging wildfires across Los Angeles, instead sharing the nominations via press release. The guild also urged people to donate to charity to help those in need, noting that donations can be made to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s natural disaster relief fund to help the SAG-AFTRA community.” In addition to their efforts, SAG donated to the Foundation for Fire Relief for 1 Million Dollars. Tune into Netflix to catch the whole ceremony.
