

Deadline has reported that Shogun is set to begin production this January in Vancouver. Several new cast members will be joining the series alongside stars Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, The Sunshine) and Cosmo Jarvis (Warfare, Calm With Horses).
According to Deadline, new faces include Sho Kaneta (Ultraman Arc, A Queen And An Old Maid) as Hidenobu, Takaaki Enok (Heaven And Earth) as Lord Ito, Asami Kizukawa (Dark Water, Last Friends) as Aya, Masataka Kubota (13 Assassins, First Love) as Hyūga, and Jun Kunimura (Kate, The Wailing) as Gōda. Returning cast members include Eita Okuno (The Outsider, Alice In Borderland) as Saeki, Yuka Kouri (Heart Attack, September 1923) as Kiku, Yoriko Dôguchi (Cure, Silence) as Kiri, Hiroto Kanai (Lotus Kitchen, Labyrinth Of Cinema) as Omi, Fumi Nikaidô (My Man, Himizu) as Ochiba, and Shinnosuke Abe (A Missing Part, Day And Night) as Buntaro.
Via Deadline, US viewers will be able to watch the show via Hulu linear streaming. Internationally, the show will be available on Disney+. Season one is available on Hulu.
Deadline has reported that, adapted from James Clavell’s (King Rat, Tai-Pan) best-selling novel, the first season follows Lord Yoshii Toranaga as he is placed in the midst of a battle for his life as his enemies in the powerful council of regents seek to bring him to his demise. A European ship finds its way to the shores of Japan when it wrecks in a village nearby. John Blackthrone, one of the ship’s crew, gives vital pieces of information to Lord Toranaga, providing critical aid in his fight against the regents.
According to Deadline, season two experiences a ten-year time jump and will continue the story of the two men from different worlds.
Via Deadline, the season two writers consist of Shannon Goss (The Terror, Outlander), Matt Lambert (South Of Well, Wednesday), Emily Yoshida (Salad Days, Poker Face), Maegan Houang (The Sympathizer, Counterpart), Justin Marks (Top Gun: Maverick, The Jungle Book), Caillin Puente (Counterpart, Clinger), Rachel Kondo (Morgenmagazin, Shogun), and Sofie Somoroff (Raised By Wolves, Cut). Directors of episodes six and seven, Hiromi Kamata (Let The Right One In, Monarch Legacy Of Monsters) and Takeshi Fukunaga (Yama Onna, Tokyo Vice), are set to return and will be joined by new additions Anthony Byrne (Mobland, Peaky Blinders), Kate Herron (Loki, Sex Education), and Marks.
Deadline has reported that Shogun enjoyed an extremely successful awards run in 2024, winning a record-breaking 18 Emmys out of 25 nominations. This was the largest single-season total by any series. Sanada became the first Japanese actor to win the lead actor category, and Anna Sawai (Pachinko, Ninja Assassin) became the first woman of Asian descent to win the lead actress category.
