With the recent announcement of showstopping nominations an article via Deadline reported that Shogun is leading this year’s 30 th annual Critics Choice Awards nominations with six nominations.
Other shows reported by Deadline that also led right behind Shogun was ABC’s Abbott Elementary, Apple TV+’s Disclaimer, HBO|Max’s Hacks and The Pengiun, Netflix’s The Diplomat and the final season of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows.
Eight other programs follow with three nominations each.
Netflix leads all networks and platforms with 23 CCA nominations, closely followed by HBO|Max with 21. Reigning Emmy champion Disney’s FX (including FX/Hulu) secures 20 nominations, while Apple TV+ rounds out the double-digit count with 12.
But not all categories have been revealed yet. The highly anticipated film nominations will be announced on December 12, with the awards ceremony taking place on Sunday, January 12, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. E! will broadcast the Critics’ Choice Awards live.
Shōgun garnered an impressive 18 Emmy Awards from 25 nominations at the September 15 ceremony. It will compete in the Critics’ Choice Awards’ prestigious Best Drama Series category alongside The Diplomat, The Day of the Jackal, Evil, industry, Interview with the Vampire, The Old Man, and Slow Horses.
The cast of the samurai period drama also earned recognition in the CCA nominations, with leads Hiroyuki Sanada (Westworld, The Last Samurai) and Anna Sawai (Pachinko, F9: The Fast Saga) nominated, along with supporting actors Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok, Lupin the Third), Takehiro Hira (Giri/Haji, Sekigahara), and Moeka Hoshi (The Naked Director, Miss Sherlock).
The Comedy Series nominees include Abbott Elementary, Hacks, What We Do in the Shadows, FX’s English Teacher, Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, HBO|Max’s Somebody Somewhere, and NBC’s new St. Denis Medical.
