Per Deadline, ABC has released another trailer for their upcoming comedy series, Shifting Gears. The project, which will premiere on January 8, 2025, will be a multi-camera sitcom that features Tim Allen (The Santa Clauses, Last Man Standing) as Matt, “a stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop who begrudgingly allows his daughter and grandkids to move into his house.”
Kat Dennings (WandaVision, Big Mouth) will star opposite Allen as his daughter, Riley. The main cast also features Seann William Scott (Welcome to Flatch, Lethal Weapon) as Gabriel, who also works at the shop; Daryl “Chill” Mitchell (Fear the Walking Dead, F is for Family) as Stitch; Maxwell Simkins (Superkitties, The Chicken Squad) as Carter and newcomer actor Barrett Margolis as Georgia.
In December, Deadline revealed that Jenna Elfman (Will Trent, Fear the Walking Dead) will recur as Eve Drake, “a spirited choreographer and owner of the dance studio across from Parker Customs.”
ABC picked up the comedy series over the summer but opted to move ahead without Mike Scully (Duncanville, The Simpsons) and Julie Thacker Scully (Fuller House, Dads), the writers who created it. Michelle Nader (B Positive, Kath & Kim) took over, marking her third series with Dennings. Previously, she served as executive producer and showrunner on the Dennings projects 2 Broke Girls and Dollface.
Allen will executive produce the series alongside Nader, Marty Adelstein (One Piece, Ten Year Old Tom), Becky Clements (Snowpiercer, Physical), Richard Baker (The Drew Carrey Show, Patrice O’Neal Live!), Rick Messina (Burning Hollywood, Small Doses), John Pasquin (Roseanne, Cristela), Jim Patterson (Call Me Kat, The Ranch), Bob Daily (Frasier, The Wonder Years) and John Amodeo (United We Fall, The Cool Kids). Pasquin also directed the pilot episode. Dennings is a producer.
The ABC series is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.
