Deadline reports that actor Shawn Hatosy (The Faculty, Animal Kingdom) will be submitted for this year’s Emmys under the categories of Supporting Actor and Director for his work in season two of The Pitt. This comes after his first Emmy win in 2025, where he took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt’s first season.
Hatosy plays the role of Dr. Jack Abbot on the critically acclaimed HBO original medical drama – the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center ER’s night shift attending physician and combat veteran. Detailed by Deadline, Abbot entered emergency medicine after six years of service and a severe combat injury. As he experiences the profound grief of losing his wife, he finds solace in his work and stays open about his mental health and emotions, assisting him and others in navigating the daily challenges of life amidst working in ups-and-downs.
The second season of The Pitt takes place on the Fourth of July. Each episode of the season is labeled after an hour in the shift, indicating that the entirety of the high-stakes and fast-paced storyline evolves in the span of one day in the PTMC ER.
Abbot is a close comrade and friend of The Pitt’s daytime attending physician, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle; ER, The Red Line), finding allyship in their struggles with mental health whilst working in the PTMC ER. In the second season, when Dr. Robby finally admits the suicidal ideation lurking ominously in the shadow of his oncoming sabbatical, Dr. Abbot connects with and comforts him which helps soothe his fears in the urgent moment. In the season two finale, the two work together taking emergency measures to save the baby of a patient experiencing pregnancy complications; The end of the shift has both Abbot and Robby leaving with a renewed impression on the value of life and what it means to survive another day.
For the increased scope of his performance in season two, per Deadline, Hatosy was qualified for the 2026 Emmys to move from the Guest category to Supporting. The actor is credited as director in the second season’s ninth episode “3:00 p.m,” which was written by Cynthia Adarkwa (Emperor of Ocean Park, Legacies).
From Deadline, a brief summary of the episode’s events:
“With systems still down, Dana (Katherine LaNasa; Three Sisters, Judging Amy) calls in an old friend with experience running a low-tech ER – but not before one of Javadi’s (Shabana Azeez; Nautilus, Birdeater) patients slips through the cracks. Meanwhile, Santos (Isa Briones; Star Trek: Picard, Goosebumps) tends to the young victim of a fireworks explosion. Later, Robby makes Whitaker (Gerran Howell; Ludwig, Suspicion) an offer.”
The Pitt had an eventful and successful 2025 awards season, with the Actor Awards seeing series star Wyle winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and the group awarded Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. They also have five Emmys under their belt already – Hatosy’s Guest Actor award, LaNasa’s Supporting Actress award, Wyle’s Outstanding Lead Actor award, and the series’ overall as Outstanding Drama Series paired with Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.
Known for his TV work, Hatosy’s notable credits include; Andrew “Pope” Cody in TNT’s Animal Kingdom and Detective Sammy Bryant in Southland, and roles in NBC’s ER and Fox’s Rescue: HI-Surf, which are all titles executive produced by John Wells (The Company Men, ER). Recently, he recurred in CBS hit series Fire County as Boston-born Battalion Chief Brett Richards, and he was announced to be starring opposite Brie Larson (Room, Captain Marvel) and Olivia Colman (The Crown, Heartstopper) in FX’s Cry Wolf, an upcoming limited series created by Sarah Treem (House of Cards, In Treatment).
In this year’s films, he played the role of Titus Danforth in Searchlight’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, starring opposite Sarah Michelle-Geller (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cruel Intentions) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Over Your Dead Body).
