The famous Netflix series The Witcher has added new members to its star-studded cast for the upcoming fourth season, which includes James Purefoy (Solomon Kane, The Following, Fisherman’s Friends), Danny Woodburn (Mirror Mirror, Watchmen, Blue Demon), and Sharlto Copley (Monkey Man, District Nine, The Hollars), Comicbook.com reports. Purefoy will be portraying the character Skellen, who is spy and Emhyr’s court advisor. Copley and Woodburn, instead, will be playing the characters of notorious bounty hunter Leo Bonhart and dwarf ally Zoltan, respectively. It has been confirmed by Comicbook.com that Woodburn’s Zoltan will be joining forces with Liam Hemsworth’s (The Last Song, The Dressmaker, The Hunger Games) Geralt.
The update was shared by Purefoy in a Twitter/X post, according to Comicbook.com, in which he wrote, “So, here we go. I’m very much looking forward to joining this incredible creative team and bringing Stefan Skellen to life. He’s a great character!”
This upcoming season, according to Comicbook.com, has already had important casting announcements in the past, such as Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, John Wick, Passengers). He will be portraying the role of the character of Regis, who is another fan-favorite. Regis’ role is to accompany Geralt in various scenes of this new season. There will also be new individual scenes of characters Ciri and Yennefer, who have split from the group at the end of season three to go on their own journeys.
Fans are curious as to how well Hemsworth will be able to fulfill the expectations for the character of Geralt after Henry Cavill (Enola Holmes, The Tudors, Argylle) has left the series. Actors Joey Batey (The Riot Club, Murder On The Home Front, Bloody Cakes), Freya Allan (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Baghead, Making The Witcher) and Anya Chalotra (Making The Witcher) have explained their thoughts about Cavill’s departure from the series and how Hemsworth will be filling his shoes in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com.
“Excited. Yeah, can’t wait to have Liam on board. Well, he is, but to meet him and have him as Geralt,” Chalotra shared, via Comicbook.com. “It’s going to be bizarre, and I feel like I’m definitely going to feel that loss. I think we all will. Henry’s been incredible and carried the show, so definitely going to feel that, but very, very excited for what’s to come. There’s so much story to tell.”
“I think it’s always…it’s intriguing and exciting to get to see another version of this, or interpretation of this character,” Allan agreed, via Comicbook.com.
“Yeah, very excited, and we’ll all miss Henry greatly,” Batey has shared, via Comicbook.com. “And as you say, behind the scenes, he’s always just been very, very supportive and funny, good-natured professional who was always the first to laugh on those bad days and to crack jokes, and that presence is cemented in the DNA of the show.”
The first three seasons of The Witcher are available for streaming on Netflix.
