After her character’s untimely death on Stranger Things, Shannon Purser has landed her next role on the CW’s new series Riverdale.
Riverdale is the CW’s newest teenage drama and is based on the Archie Comics. The show will follow the drama and lives of several highschool students who are still dealing with the tragic death of one of their classmates.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Purser will play Ethel Muggs who teams up with two of her classmates in order to get revenge on a boy named Reggie Mantel.
Purser recently shot to stardom for her short-lived role on Netflix’s mega-hit Stranger Things. In Stranger Things, Purser played Barb, Nancy’s best friend who ended up being abducted by the Demogorgon and killed. Despite her brief role, fans quickly fell in love with Purser and her portrayal of the awkward yet loyal Barb.
In an interview, Purser talked to Thrillist and discussed her new fame. “It’s just all so surreal. I see these things and I almost just don’t even believe it because it’s not something that I ever really imagined for myself, especially not this early in my career. This is my first project. And people have really responded so positively and really have latched onto her, and it’s been amazing. It seems like almost every day I see something new, and it’s incredible.”
After Barb’s death on Stranger Things, creator Matt Duffer talked about the future of the show and pretty much confirmed that we shouldn’t expect to see the series pull a Jon Snow and miraculously resurrect Barb. But although Barb is dead, her death will be properly addressed.
Barb may be gone, but she’s not forgotten. And now we can look forward to more of Shannon Purser on the small screen.
KJ Apa, Sarah Habel, Ashleigh Murray, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Madeleine Petsch will star in Riverdale.
Riverdale was adapted for TV by Roberto Aguire-Sacasa (Glee) and is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (The Flash) and will premiere on the CW midseason.
