Shane Gillis Amps Up the Nervous Humor In New ‘SNL’ Promo Video

The internet is buzzing with anticipation and curiosity towards the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. Announced on February 3rd during the episode hosted by Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms), Shane Gillis (Gilly and Keeves) will be hosting the beloved sketch show this Saturday night. Upon this upcoming episode, the promotional content has begun. The SNL social media have been flooded with content, including a new promo video where Gillis is seen practicing his opening monologue.

In the latest SNL promo, we see Gillis standing on the iconic stage as he goes through several ideas and jokes that he had in mind for his monologue. As he is practicing, cast members Sarah Sherman (Nimona) and Marcelo Hernandez (The Improvisor) enter the studio and ask to hang around as Gillis is workshopping his bits. As the video continues, it is apparent that Gillis is floundering a bit in his nerves with hosting as his jokes are falling flat towards the two cast members. During this, Sherman and Hernandez then tell him he is ready to roll and his monologue is good to go for the Saturday night debut. Surprisingly, there is no mention of Gillis’ prior casting status at SNL.

This episode was met with some conversation all over the internet. This is in response to the fact that Gillis was originally fired from being cast as an SNL cast member back in 2019. When a podcast resurfaced of him using homophobic and racial slurs, NBC thought it fit to not continue with him as a cast member, and was fired only 5 days before the season’s debut. With that in mind, SNL fans are finding it quite odd that he is back to host the show, even with his success with his stand-up comedy. But, there are plenty of comedy fans who are very eager to see what exactly he has in store for his return back to studio 8H.

Saturday Night Live is airing on NBC this Saturday, February 24 hosted by Shane Gillis with 21 Savage as musical guest. Check out the latest promo video below!
