The adult animated series will be based on the beloved hit 1974 sitcom named Good Times.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the voice cast for the series will include J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live) as the main cast as well as many others who have yet to be mentioned. The series showrunner will be Ranada Shepard (Born Again Virgin), who has replaced Carl Jones (The Boondocks) in the role moving forward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, based on the 1974 sitcom, the adult animated series follows the Evans family in the present day. In the series, they will navigate the contemporary issues that affect today’s world. The series will still hold on to many beliefs that the original sitcom had such as the power of family love that can help many get through tough times. The original sitcom cast includes Esther Rolle (Driving Miss Daisy) as Florida Evans, John Amos (Coming to America) as James Evans Sr, Ralph Carter (The Groomsmen) as Michael Evans, Bern Nadette Stanis (No Regrets) as Thelma Evans, and Jimmie Walker (Airplane!) as James Evans Jr.
Lear, who passed December 5, revolutionized television with his hilariously topical sitcoms that challenged the status quo. In addition to Good Times, he was the mind behind shows like Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, and Maude.
The Netflix and Sony Picture Television comedy has no confirmed release date as of yet. Although many sources believe that they are aiming for the summer of 2024.
