According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix released the trailer showcasing the release of the 56th season of Sesame Street, the first season to be streamed on the platform. This version will have different options to increase the ease of playing the show.
THR states that Netflix is planning on releasing episodes of the show four at a time, with three separate premiere periods. Bubba Wallace is speculated to be the first guest of the show.
Sal Perez, an executive producer for Sesame Street, made a statement on the matter. “Season 56 reimagines Sesame Street, inviting children into the action and bringing them hand-in-hand through high-stakes stories, powerful learning moments, and laugh-out-loud surprises”, Perez says. “As always, Sesame Street’s curriculum is designed to meet children’s most pressing needs — so our focus this season is on kindness and compassion, something we can all use more of today.”
Sesame Street episodes on Netflix will run for 30 minutes, as opposed to the 2016 hour-long episodes. The trailer is below.
The show has a new head writer, Halcyon Person, who was also a writer for Karma’s World, a show also on Netflix starring Ludacris’ daughter. Along with Karma’s World, Person was a writer for Dee & Friends in Oz (2024). Sesame Street will be available in more than 30 languages, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to Sesame Workshop, a website owned by Sesame Street, The first episode aired in 1969 with a child being introduced to the characters. Since the show piloted during a time of civil rights protests and poverty issues, the creators came up with an idea to prepare children in the midst of these hard times. With episodes on education, art, and other important topics, it was beneficial to children across the country.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a big change to the show will be its format. Up until recently, the show used a “magazine”-style format with two segments with their respective narratives. The format will still be two separate segments, but shorter, and with episodes of their new animated series, Tales From 123, sandwiched between.
