Nasim Pedrad’s series ‘Chad‘ will return to Roku Channel this month, Deadline exclusively reports. This show took a few twists and turns before landing on Roku Channel. Firstly, its pilot episode was shown on FOX, then it moved to TBS. After that, it got cancelled from TBS before season two’s premiere date, which was planned for Apr. 11, 2022, since Warner Bros Discovery cut out various series from its catalog to avoid production costs. Luckily, Roku bought season two of Chad and its non-exclusive rights to the first season in Oct. 2022. This fun-filled comedy was able to be one of the few series that survived a cancellation, lately. Now it seems to have found its right place with Roku Channel.
This show is created, written, and executive-produced by Pedrad (New Girl, Scream Queens, People of Earth). She is also the showrunner and main star of the series. Her character is the main point in the story since the show speaks about the struggles of being a Persian-American male teenager in society. The series’ second season focuses on the boy’s sophomore year and its challenges, in which his new popularity status is straining, his friendships are falling apart, and his understanding of love is misfiring. At the same time, he has to try to maintain his Persian identity.
According to Deadline, the series has been ranked on TBS as the number one new scripted cable comedy series of 2021. Furthermore, it has received positive reviews from critics for how accurately it has broken through various Persian stereotypes and was able to showcase how life as an American immigrant truly is.
Rob Rosell (New Girl, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dave), Rhys Thomas (Saturday Night Live, Staten Island Summer, Comrade Detective), Max Searle (Dave, Neon, Lady Dynamite) and Oliver Obst (The Lovebirds, Jerked) are also executive producers on this show, according to Deadline. Furthermore, Chad stars Saba Homayoon (How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, Charmed) as Naz, Chad’s mother; Thomas Barbusca (The Mick, Big Time Adolescence, Luckiest Girl Alive) as Reid, Paul Chahidi (The other Half, This Country, The Voices) as Uncle Hamid; Alexa Loo (Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Rogue) as Denise; Sara Malal Rowe (Henry Danger, Same Time, Next Christmas), and Ella Mika (Birds Of Prey, A Wedding For Christmas) as Chad’s sister, Niki for season two’s cast.
Chad will begin streaming all ten episodes of season two on Roku Channel from Jan. 19. Watch the trailer here.
