It has been over two decades, since the crew of Serenity has graced viewers by partaking an accepting illegal jobs throughout the galaxy and ready to take off once again. A series of cryptic and captivating Instagram posts on the @oncewewerespacemen account, revealing none other than Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie), who played Captain Mal Reynolds in Firefly and spark a wildfire throughout the fandom.
The recent video post features Fillion talking with Jewel Staite (Resident Alien, Mothman), who responds with ,”Wait, are we?”, followed up by Fillion’s agreement,” Yes we are” and ending it with the iconic line: ‘shiny!’. This acts more than a mere update, this is a solemn pledge from the cast to honor the legacy of the series.
The original series legacy expanded beyond the screen, with the 2005 film, Serenity, which acts as a continuation from where the story ended with the group after dealing with dangerous bounty hunter on the ship excepted River, played by Summer Glau (Hawaii Five-O, Arrow) into the team and flying into the unknown.
The returning cast have remained tight-lipped on what the reboot series will hold, but the plot will surely follow the same format as its predecessor and promises to keep the same blend of the sci-if and western genre. Viewers can also expected the same witty dialogue that counterbalance the intense action sequences. Furthermore, another factors that audience to expect is the group encountering new enemies and obstacles along their journey.
It has yet to be announced that the story will be following the same groups or will have a whole new group, with cameos of previous actors such as Fillion, Staite, or Alan Tudyk (I,Robot, Big Hero 6). While waiting on further information on the Firefly reboot which is rumored to start around March 12, the entire original series is available to stream on Hulu.
