Velma, an animated series on Max, has been renewed for a second season. It has also been announced that the release date for the second season will be on April 25th, Comicbook.com reports. Since the second season will be released in two weeks from today, the announcement of a renewal seems more last-minute than usual.
According to Comicbook.com, the announcement was released from the streaming platform Max, in an X/Twitter post. This update shows the entirety of April’s new catalog, which features Velma. That is the only way that fans of the show found out about the release date for season two of the animated series. The post is available below if you want to check it out.

Furthermore, fans of Velma remember that this animated show was at the center of mixed reviews when the first season was released. Velma, which stars actress Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Office, Never Have I Ever) as the famous fan-favorite character of the Scooby-Doo gang, did not make a good impression head-on in the beginning. According to Comicbook.com, the show was rated the lowest one on IMDb. Same situation happened on Rotten Tomatoes and Google. Some appreciated the humor of the show, but others were truly critical of the plotline.
Though, even if it was negatively reviewed, many people ended up watching Velma, making it earn the first spot on the most-watched Max animated originals. According to Comicbook.com, its premiere was able to let many people tune in to watch the new adventures of the quirky detective. Now, people are skeptical to see what Max will deliver with its new episodes for season two.
Season one of Velma is currently streaming on Max, and season two will be released on Apr. 25, as stated beforehand.
