The White Lotus’s season three premiere hit a record high with 2.4 million viewers, according to a WBD press release. The dramedy first premiered on HBO back in 2021 and since then has grown in popularity.
In the press release, episode one of The White Lotus hit a record amount of viewers in the U.S., doubling the number of views of the second season’s premiere episode during the same amount of time. Viewership grew to a 90%- high since Sunday night, bringing the domestic audience to 4.6 million cross-platform viewers. In Europe and Latin America, the premiere more than tripled its audience compared to the previous season’s premiere on Max. It also hit #1 on Max, following a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show draws in viewers with its murder mystery plot. Each season takes place at a vacation destination, following guests at a resort and the staff who work there. So far the destinations we’ve hit are Wailea, Hawaii for season one, and Taormina, Sicily for season two. Season three takes place in Koh Samui, Thailand. As we follow the upper and working-class versions of resort life, we see they have much more in common than they thought. Each character has a past or something to hide. On top of following the messy lives of the characters, we also follow the narrative of a murder. Each episode unravels evidence of the case resulting in a confession by the season finale.
Not only does the murder mystery draw in viewers, but fans also are intrigued by the star-studded cast. Some notable alumni on the show are Theo James (Divergent, X-Men ’97), Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde, American Pie), and Aubrey Plaza (Agatha All Along, Legion). The casting carries on to season three as we see some returners. Natasha Rothwell (How To Die Alone, Wonder Woman ’84) continues to play Belinda, the manager of the Hawaiin resort spa. Some new cast members fans anticipated were Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Juror #2) and Carrie Coon (His Three Daughters, The Gilded Age).
To catch the rest of season three tune in on HBO Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT.
