According to The Hollywood Reporter, after three seasons and the fourth one still in production, Nancy Drew is coming to an end. The show is one of the last shows to have survived the cancellations that came with the announcement that the CW was going to be bought by Nexstar.
The cast and crew were informed of the decision Wednesday afternoon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The last season is currently in production in Vancouver and it’s set to premiere during The CW’s midseason schedule in 2023.
The showrunners Noga Landau (The Magicians, Tom Swift) and Melinda Hsu (The Vampire Diaries, Tom Swift) have said that they are proud and honored at the opportunity to bring Nancy Drew, a character known for her determination, individuality, and resilience, to life on the small screen. They also thanked the fan community of Nancy Drew for all their love and support of the show that meant so much to them.
The actress Kennedy McMann (Gone, Tell Me Lies) who portrays Nancy, has said that she is grateful for being part of Nancy Drew’s endless legacy. The character of Nancy Drew first appeared in the book series by Carolyn Keene which is a pseudonym used by the group of authors that has worked on the Nancy Drew books.
Nancy Drew joins The Flash and Riverdale as CW series that will end during the 2022-23 broadcast season. At this moment, the remaining CW original shows that haven’t announced last seasons or that haven’t been canceled are All American and its spinoff Homecoming, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois, Walker and its Independence spinoff, as well as the new series Gotham Knights and The Winchesters, the Supernatural prequel.
The show followed Nancy and her friends George Fan played by Leah Lewis (The Half of It, How to Deter a Robber); Bess Marvin played by Maddison Jaizani (Into the Badlands, Versailles); Ace played by Alex Saxon (The Fosters, The Fix); and Nick Nickerson played by Tunji Kasim (The Good Liar, The Kill Team). The group of young adults live and work in Horseshoe Bay, Maine. Together they solve mysteries both regular crimes and supernatural.
The new season of Nancy Drew is set out to premiere sometime next year. In the meantime, the first three seasons are available to watch on The CW and HBO Max.
