Season Four of ‘The Night Agent’ Gains Four New Cast Members

An exclusive from Deadline has revealed that Netflix’s The Night Agent will be adding four new series regulars to its upcoming fourth season. Main star Gabriel Basso (Super 8, Barely Lethal), will be joined by Elizabeth Lail (Once Upon a Time, You), Li Jun Li (Babylon, Quantico), Trevante Rhodes (The Predator, Bird Box), and Titus Welliver (Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy) this season.

While there are limited details about the characters, Deadline shared that Rhodes will be Dom – Peter Sutherland’s (Basso) new partner – and that Li is slated to play Dom’s wife Min; Welliver will take the part of Duval, a special DOJ prosecutor, and Lail will play the highly anticipated role of Peter’s ex-fiancée Zoe. Previously, the only reference of his ex-fiancée had been in the first season when Peter gave some of her clothes to Rose.

After the dangerous events of the first two seasons, Peter Sutherland has thrown himself into his work as a Night Agent and sworn off romantic relationships after his job put prior love interest Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan; Filthy Rich, The New Legends of Monkey) in danger. Deadline, citing a prior interview with series creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan (The Shield, Lie to Me), highlighted that the season three finale left off with Peter getting a new partner that the audience has yet to meet and that Peter is longing to find ways to achieve balance in his life. The appearance of Dom, as a surrogate big brother of sorts to Peter, puts theory into practice by proving that a Night Agent can be married and have a personal life and family.

Concerning new character Duval, Deadline managed to connect season three events to a storyline part of season four that Ryan confirmed on the dangers of the President having trained killers ready at his orders with little oversight. Ryan solidified that debate as a major part of season four’s storyline. Duval is believed to be one of those who see Night Action and the Night Agents as an extrajudicial Presidential hit squad, poised to investigate the program and targeting Peter.

So far, Basso is the only cast member from season three confirmed to return, but Ryan had also teased to Deadline that others would be back as well. The four new additions to the cast follow prior cast additions and returning members from season three’s story arc; Stephen Moyer (True Blood, The Gifted), Jennifer Morrison (How I Met Your Mother, Sun Dogs), David Lyons (ER, Revolution), and Ward Horton (Annabelle, The Gilded Age). Ryan cited the post-Peak TV environment with significantly less scripted series towards reduced opportunities for actors overall as the reason The Night Agent was able to sign such well-known TV stars.

As listed by Deadline:

Lail’s popular credits include season one of Netflix’s You, the recurring role of Anna in ABC’s Once Upon a Time, and a starring role on Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movies. With a recent two episodes of CBS’ Elsbeth, Lail is repped by Authentic Talent & Literary Management and Gersh.

Li, known for Wu Assassins and Sinners’ Grace Chow, was recently cast to guest star on season three of HBO’s The Last of Us and will star opposite Nicolas Cage in Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Noir series. She is repped by Jackoway Austen Tyerman, Gersh, and Authentic Talent & Literary Management.

Rhodes is known for his portrayal of Mike Tyson in Hulu miniseries Mike, and has won a Film Independent Spirit Award for his work in Best Picture Oscar winner Moonlight from Barry Jenkins (Medicine for Melancholy, The Underground Railroad). He is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

While known for his role as LAPD Detective Harry Bosch in the eponymous Amazon franchise, Welliver has recently starred in the Sundance-premiered indie film Ricky and held a recurring spot on AMC’s Dark Winds. Next up for him are movies Killing Castro and Hotel Tehran and MGM+ series The Westies. He is repped by Leverage Management and UTA.

Mariana Agustin: Mariana Agustin is currently studying for a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Public Relations at Hofstra University. She is passionate about amplifying voices, telling stories, and highlighting the little things.
