The end of the popular series Billions has been confirmed to conclude its story some time later this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damian Lewis (Homeland) will reprise his role as Bobby Axelrod and that season 7 will be available to stream on August 11 and premiere on-air on August 13, at 8pm ET/PT. During a radio interview, actor Dan Soder (Dan Soder: Son of Gary) mentioned back in March that the next season will be the show’s last.
Even though the end of the series is near, that does not mean the universe of Billions shall stop expanding. There will be spinoff series on Showtime, to which two of those spinoff show names will be titled Trillions and Millions. On these new shows, both the co-creators of Billions David Levien (Knockaround Guys) and Brian Koppelman (Solitary Man) will return to work on these projects. Showtime hopes that these new spin-off series can carry on the legacy and impact that Billions has, giving fans more of the Billions universe to expand upon.
President and CEO of Showtime and MTV Chris McCarthy left a comment in regards to the impact and upcoming end of the show, “Billions has deftly explored power, money and greed in a way that not only made it a massive hit, but also defined its own genre thanks to the creative brain trust of Brian and David. This final season is packed full of the incredible, complex dialogue and character dynamics fans have come to love, and we are thrilled to partner with them on turning this hit series into a global franchise.”
For now, fans can only anticipate what is to happen in this next season, confirmed to have 12 episodes with a series description of “Alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.”
