Season 4 of Netflix’s ‘The Last Kingdom’ Begins Filming

The Last Kingdom, has officially started production for the fourth season of the hit historical drama. The series is produced by Carnival Films and will launch its Season 4 on Netflix globally in 2020.

At a later date, the show will premiere across Africa, Belgium, China, Greece, Israel, Italy, Middle East, the Netherlands, the Nordics and Poland. NBCUniversal International Distribution distributes the show worldwide.

Alexander Dreymon will reprise the role of Uhtred, with Stefanie Martini taking on the role of Eadith, Aethelred’s new love conquest. Jamie Blackley will play Aethelred’s new right-hand man Eardwulf.

The returning cast is rounded out by Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Emily Cox (Brida), Timothy Innes (Kind Edward), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Mark Rowley (Finan), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), Magnus Bruun (Cnut) and Jeppe Beck Laursen (Haesten).

Last year’s third season, followed King Alfred as he reconsiders his legacy after his dream of a united kingdom of England is jeopardized by Danish attacks. Later allying with Uhtred after formally pardoning him, King Alfred decides to try and assuage future attacks, but unfortunately meets his untimely death — ultimately allowing Uthred to ally with Alfred’s son and heir.

The fourth season will follow the aftermath of Alfred’s death, as the alliances between each kingdom becomes fractured. Believing the event to be perfect timing, Uhtred attempts to challenge his uncle Aelfric, played by Joseph Millson, as he takes back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg.

Fate shifts in a different direction, leading Uhtred to believe that his alternate destiny is tied to Alfred’s dream of a united land. Uhtred’s feelings for Aethelflaed further encourages his alliances and enemies to reconsider an all out war.

The Last Kingdom is written by Martha Hillier, and executive produced by Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant and Jessica Pope with Vicki Delow producing.
