According to ScreenRant, a new poster for season three premiere of the Chucky series pokes fun at the recently released Barbie movie posters and cinematic trailer. Since Chucky is in fact fantastic and made of plastic, it makes sense for the killer doll and his counterpart toy, Tiffany Valentine, to tease the stereotypical and shallow Barbie doll franchise.
The television series follows the chronological events after the Cult of Chucky film, still following the possessed doll as he is eventually bought again during a yard sale by unsuspecting teen Jake Wheeler, played by Zachary Arthur (The 5th Wave, Mom and Dad, These Things Take Time). The show continues down the murderous storylines with some typical dark but comedic lines from the demonic dolls, but also shows macabre and emotionally realistic factors with its diverse all-teenage cast.
Yesterday on April 5, the official Chucky Twitter page posted two parody images of the title character and his female counterpart with a Barbie toy packaging format and slogans that can be misconstrued as child friendly or overtly creepy. The slogans read “He ‘s your friend ’til the end” and “She’ll eat your heart out” as seen below:
The Chucky character was originally from the 1988 sell-out slasher Child’s Play, following the murderous doll coming to life and slaughtering his owners or anyone getting in his way. The popular niche horror movie eventually developed into a franchise like most slasher movies from the 1980’s, including titles such as Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky, and Cult of Chucky, as well as its first reboot in 2019.
The storyline of season 3 will feature both dolls still rampaging with murderous intent after the season 2 finale implying the death of Tiffany. Since it’s unlikely to kill such a major character who is also featured in the promotional advertisements, Tiffany’s role is sure to return, somehow managing to escape the wrath of Chucky. The premiere of season 3 does not have a scheduled release date but is said to be coming out sometime this fall on Syfy.
