Today marks the premiere of season 3 of Scream, titled Scream: Resurrection, the tv series based on the horror movie series Scream starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette. Scream followed the life of Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, who was hunted by a serial killer known as ghost face. In 2015, MTV released the premiere of Scream: The TV Series starring Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Carlson Young, and Amadeus Serafini. The show followed the group of teenagers as they tried to discover the identity of the masked serial killer who was terrorizing their hometown.
Scream: The TV Series lasted for two seasons on MTV before entering show limbo. The show was never officially canceled by the network, but according to TV Series Finale, there were plans for season 3. Unfortunately, according to Syfy Wire, the third season was put off for a few years while the show dealt with its behind-the-scenes problems, and the original cast was quietly told to move on to other projects.
Then, according to Variety, at the end of June the premiere of season 3 was announced with a new cast, new name, and new network. This season is comprised of 6 episodes premiering in a three night event with two episodes a night. The new cast includes RJ Cyler starring as the lead character Deion Elliot alongside Mary J. Blige, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Giorgia Whigham, CJ Wallace, Jessica Sula, and Giullian Yao Gioiello. Wes Craven, the creator of the movies, is credited as executive producer alongside Queen Latifah.
According to TV Line, the show does not follow the story of the past two seasons moving its setting from New Orleans to Atlanta. The show is set to have a much lighter tone with more comedic relief from the new group of potential victims. This Breakfast Club style mashup of characters is led by Deion Elliot, the star of the football team, as the serial killer known as “Ghostface”, bringing back the original mask, begins attacking his unlikely group of friends.
Scream: Resurrection premieres tonight on VH1.
