Amazon Prime Video teased the return of The Boys in its sophomore season with a trailer released on July 8. The streamer will release the first three episodes of the second season September 4, according to Indie Wire.
From there, Amazon will take an unconventional release strategy with the remaining five episodes. Following the September 4 premiere of season 2, one episode will be released each Friday until the finale on October 9.
The Boys’ first season premiered in 2019 and followed the team of vigilantes as they worked to defeat superheroed individuals and their abuse of abilities. The series was developed by Eric Kripke (Supernatural) for Amazon from the comic under the same written by Garth Ennis (Dangerous Habits). The cast includes Karl Urban (Dredd), Jack Quaid (Plus One), Antony Starr (Banshee), Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones) and Dominique McElligott (Hell on Wheels).
Season 2 will bring Laz Alonso (Avatar), Tomer Capon (When Heroes Fly), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), and Aya Cash (You’re the Worst) to the series.
The synopsis for season 2 per Amazon is as follows: “The even more intense, more insane Season 2 finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia,” via Indie Wire.
