“South Park” has always been known for taking on taboo subjects and finding creative ways to poke fun at pop culture trends and mainstream news. They have pushed the envelope since 1997 when the show first aired. The first seven episodes of “South Park’s” Season 19 has cleverly and strategically focused on many political topics that have been continuously covered in mainstream media.
*SPOILERS BELOW*
One of these topics includes Donald Trump’s attitude towards certain political issues and his public persona. In a recent “South Park” episode, there is a Donald Trump-like character who becomes the Prime Minister of Canada resulting in the downfall of the country. The Trump-like character is seen as being hard headed and ruining foreign relationships particularly Canada’s relationship with the United States.
The episodes in general have also repeatedly made fun of what is considered to be politically correct (PC) on an array of subjects. In addition, “South Park” now has a new principal on the show and he is known as PC Principal. The character, PC Principal is portrayed as a strict PC abiding man who intimidates everyone. And more recently the show took on police brutality and ISIS in episode 7 of season 19. In this episode, we see law enforcement officer Sergeant Yates who has no regard for underrepresented groups while character Officer Barbrady is trying to be a decent cop but accidently shoots two Latino children. Eventually, the residents of “South Park” push the police out of town but realize they made a mistake as homeless people invade their precious trending hipster district in their town “SodoSopa.” The episode also shows lead characters Kyle, Stan, and Cartman as ninjas. The kid’s outfits cause the adults in the town to think that they are members of ISIS.
Some of the other topics the current season of “South Park” has covered are online bullying, body shaming, Caitlyn Jenner’s bravery, and gentrifying.
