According to ScreenRant, the first teaser trailer for season sixteen of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia showcases the gang involved with more chaotic shenanigans as usual back at Paddy’s Pub in southern Philly. The trailer also showcases Breaking Bad duo Aaron Paul (Need for Speed, BoJack Horseman, El Camino) and Bryan Cranston (Your Honor, Malcolm in The Middle, Better Call Saul) as guest stars in the upcoming season.
The longest running American live-action sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is returning once more to FX and Hulu with all new adventures with the gang including Charlie, Charlie Day (The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Horrible Bosses, Fool’s Paradise); Frank, Danny DeVito (One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Matilda, Friends); Mac, Rob McElhenney (Welcome to Wrexham, Mythic Quest, Game of Thrones); Dennis, Glenn Howerton (Blackberry, A.P. Bio, Velma); and Dee, Katlin Olson (The Mick, Agent Elvis, Coyote Ugly).
FX Network has released a trailer as seen below, giving a quick glimpse into the antics of the gang in the upcoming season set to premiere next month on June 7.
The trailer shows a nugget of basic American knowledge such as inflation that the gang is completely ambivalent toward. They appear to have no knowledge of its purpose or even its meaning, excluding sleazy businessman Frank Reynolds, who then has to explain the complex democratic system that he has likely ignored in several past occasions.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse of guest stars Paul and Cranston, being escorted in a limousine by illiterate and incompetent character Charlie, that will likely end in disaster or destruction. This is another line of reunions between the Breaking Bad duo becoming household names with their Emmy award winning series, self-made tequila – Dos Hombres, and most recently a Super Bowl commercial for PopCorners.
Season 15 initially aired back in December of 2021 and had a primarily satirical focus on the coronavirus epidemic but also touched on other topical subjects like the raid at the White House, political correctness, and long lost relatives. A majority of the character and cast time was spent in Ireland visiting the birthplace of stereotypical Irish-American drunks. A long lost theory of Frank being Charlie’s biological father was debunked as we meet the real father, played by Colm Meaney (Con Air, Hell on Wheels, Layer Cake), who soon perishes after contracting Covid from someone in the gang.
Season 16 will continue to poke fun at hot-button issues as they have done in the past while also bringing fresh new ideas to the storyline. The characters will further reflect on themselves and their issues, whether emotional, psychological, or personal. With Paul and Cranston confirmed to be appearing sometime during the season, it’s safe to say that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will continue to be a success for FX and Hulu to be released on June 7.
