Deadline exclusively reports that Sean Hayes has joined the fifth season of The Morning Show. Reuniting with fellow NBC partner Jennifer Aniston (Murder Mystery 2, Friends), the Will & Grace star is set to play Wyatt, the older brother and manager of Boyd Holbrook’s (Gone Girl, Milk) Brodie.
Hayes is the latest addition to the season, joining Jeff Daniels (Shrinking, The Newsroom) Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy, Hotel Costiera) and Reneé Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls, Mean Girls: The Musical). Daniels will portray Lukas, a billionaire and founder of an investment firm. Rapp will play Samantha, a new addition to the UBN news division. Williams is Vernon, the company’s new head of news after the successful UBA-NBN merger that was complete last season.
The Morning Show follows the complicated business and personal lives of anchors, writers, producers and executives of a daily news show. The first season introduced us to Aniston’s Alex Levy, a tenured anchor whose career takes a turn following her male co-anchor’s termination for sexual assault allegations. She is then partnered with novice midwest journalist, Bradley Jackson, played by Reese Witherspoon (Election, Little Fires Everywhere). The series has tackled major ripped-from-the-headline topics including the Jan. 6 insurrection.
The series has boasted an all-star list of main and recurring cast members, including Billy Crudup (Jay Kelly, Watchmen), Mark Duplass (Creep, Big Mouth), Karen Pittman (Forever, And Just Like That…), Nicole Beharie (Black Mirror, Sleepy Hollow) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Your Friends & Neighbors).
Hayes is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Will & Grace’s Jack McFarland. Apart from a three-episode arc on the musical drama, Smash, Deadline reports this gig is Hayes biggest commitment to a drama series. He’s worked extensively on the stage, wining a Tony for Good Night, Oscar. He’s currently starring in The Unknown, an Off-Broadway thriller.
In his spare time, Hayes also co-hosts the SmartLess podcast with Arrested Development brothers Jason Bateman (DTF St. Louis) and Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman).
