DC Studios is preparing itself for a chance of redemption, as the latest footage from Lanterns appears to be giving fans reason to believe. Reported by Comicbook, the HBO series unleashed a new trailer during its San Diego Comic-Con panel. The upcoming series will be a part of James Gunn (Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Peter Safran’s (Supergirl, Clayface) revamped DC Universe, and surely to bring a legendary adventure within the Green Lantern lore, but shifting the plot in focusing a classic murder mystery on Earth instead of intergalactic journey. View the trailer below.
According to Comicbook, the Lantern series has a good roster, which will have Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Anniversary) as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre (Mufasa, Goat) as John Stewart. Throughout social media, the series has been met with mixed criticism from the audience, but that quickly changed due to the released footage, giving a glimpse into what the Lantern series will be about.
One fan declared it as “such a BETTER trailer.”
This was such a BETTER trailer and literally screamed everything about Green Lanterns. I can’t believe Hal said the oath!!!! Guy Gardener is back. Aaron Pierre is an elite casting for Jon Stewart. Kyle Chandler as old Hal is perfect. This looks amazing and I’m so excited for this https://t.co/bzsoxkLbVo

Stated by Comicbook, the newly released trailer reveals that Hal Jordan is mentoring John Stewart as the two Green Lanterns embark on a dangerous journey together. As John learns what it truly means to wield a power ring, the pair begin investigating a disturbing string of mysterious deaths that have shaken a seemingly quiet small town, uncovering a dark secret that lies beneath the surface.
The trailer also includes a fun Easter egg for longtime DC fans. At one point, John asks, “Do you know what a Manhunter is?”—a clear reference to Martian Manhunter, hinting that the iconic Justice League member or the ancient Manhunter robots could play a role in the series’ larger format. Additionally, viewers get a brief look at Hal visiting with Sinestro, the legendary Green Lantern portrayed by Ulrich Thomsen (Boundless, Ripples), focusing on the cases. But when Sinestro states,”You don’t really believe he is your backup,” Hal coldly answers,”My replacement.”
The new Lanterns series is scheduled to make it’s grand premiere on HBO on August 16.
