According to Deadline, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has no official possibilities of a second season. According to Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, the official creators of the show, there is no sequel underway. This goes against the reviews of the show, which have been praising Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Deadline says that O’Malley said “It’s self-contained for now. We loved what we did. We put it all in there. We don’t have any ideas lying on the floor. We pretty much put them all in, I never say never, but right now, it seems like it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen. So we’ll see.”
Grabinski agreed with O’Malley, says Deadline, stating that “We’re not working on it. We have no official ideas. We put everything we had into this, and we think it has a really great ending that we’re proud of. I don’t make any plans in general. Maybe some day one of us will text each other an idea that’s really great for a Season Two. But for now, my entire brain and heart is in this thing, and just getting it out into the world.”
Both O’Malley and Grabinski also revealed that they noticed that fans dislike a lack of closure in shows, and therefore, tried to make season one a complete season with no fans left anticipating anything new. They believed that this would make fans more content with only one season, says Deadline.
Deadline cited that Scott Pilgrim Takes Off takes inspiration from the comic book that O’Malley created as well as the live action movie Scott Pilgrim VS The World.
According to Collider, the film took artistic liberties regarding the plot and characters. However, Collider also revealed that the show on Netflix would take less liberties than the movie, following the comics in a more direct way.
