Scott Gimple and Greg Nicotero Preview Sunday’s Season Finale of ‘The Walking Dead’

As another season of The Walking Dead starts to come to a close, fans are clamoring for any news that they can get. Entertainment Weekly talked with showrunner Scott Gimple about what fans can expect in the finale.

Gimple said that fans can expect “everything” from the finale.

“It’s the highs and lows, brightness and darkness, alpha to omega, a quiet-loud-sad-happy tragiredemptive circus of emotion, anguish, and grace. I hope people feel it all come together and have that rush you feel when the roller coaster finally coasts back to the platform,” Gimple said.

The director of Sunday’s episode, Greg Nicotero, one of the executive producers of the show, also spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what to expect from Sunday’s episode.

Nicotero claimed this is one of the best episodes of the show that’s been put on the air and said that was there a much different vibe during filming of this finale than the season six finale, which left off on a cliffhanger of who did Negan kill.

“I think it’s one of the best scripts that we’ve ever produced, just in terms of pure character arc. And it really sums up the trajectory of the second half of the season perfectly. A lot of the questions, and a lot of the things that we spent time cultivating over the first half of the season and the second half of the season, definitely come to a head,” Nicotero said.

He also said that it’s hard to compare a season premiere with a season finale because they’re all so different, noting that season four finale with the Terminus capture and the escape in the beginning of the fifth season and starting at the quarry in the sixth season to begin held by Negan in the sixth finale.

Nicotero, meanwhile, said that only five people have seen the finale episode and that it’s killing him that more people haven’t seen it.

Luckily for him, and fans of the show, there’s only a couple of more days they have to wait.

The season seven finale of The Walking Dead airs this coming Sunday, Apr. 2, at 9 p.m.
