Michelle Monaghan (Pixels, The Family Plan, The White Lotus) will lead the cast of The Sticks, Netflix’s upcoming young adult hockey drama. According to Deadline, the streaming platform has announced several new cast members for the series while also revealing its official title.
Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, American Beauty, NCIS: New Orleans), Logan Marshall-Green (The Invitation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Upgrade) and Alex MacIsaac (When Calls the Heart, The Social Reckoning, Two for Tee) have joined the cast as series regulars. Bryan Greenberg (How to Make It in America, Prime, Bride Wars), Chelsea Field (Masters of the Universe, NCIS: New Orleans, The Last Boy Scout), Patrick Gallagher (Night at the Museum, Glee, Big Sky), Alison Araya (Peacemaker, Julie and the Phantoms, Maid), Aman Smardon (Allegiance), Krista Bridges (Narc, Heroes Reborn, Heartland) and Ben Cotton (The Night Agent, Mars, The Killing) have also joined the series in recurring roles.
Previously announced cast members include Monaghan as Harper Sullivan, Émilie Bierre (Teacup, A Colony, The Guide to the Perfect Family) as Riley Sullivan, Shai Chase (Anino, The Shortlist, Love192) as Henry Sullivan, Josh Macqueen (Black Snow, Motorheads, Significant Others) as Rhett Nelson, Costa D’Angelo (Thrash, The Deb, Crazy Fun Park) as Owen Boone, Carter Shimp (Best Medicine, Curse of the Sin Eater, Fairground) as Austin Ryder and Ethan Holder (A Larger Life, Ballard) as Cooper Cunningham.
Created by Nick Naveda (Words on Bathroom Walls, Say You Will, Judi) and Bridget Bedard (Transparent, Ramy, Love Life), The Sticks follows Harper, a grieving wife who takes over as coach of the hockey team her late husband built after tragedy strikes a small Minnesota town.
According to the official synopsis, Harper guides a found family of wounded young athletes through a season of loss, love and rivalry.
Bakula will portray Coach Brody, while Marshall-Green has been cast as Coach Sully. MacIsaac will play Emma Boone.
The eight-episode series is executive produced by Naveda, Bedard, Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy, Arrival), Dan Levine (Arrival, Free Guy, Backrooms) and Robert Atwood (Ringer, Will & Grace, The Death of Eva Sophia Valdez). Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night, Hurry Up Tomorrow) will direct the series.
A release date for The Sticks has not yet been announced.
