Scarlett Johannson will star in an upcoming television mini-series based on Edith Wharton’s 1913 novel The Custom of The Country, Deadline writes.
Edith Wharton’s lesser known novel promises a meatier role for television, as opposed to line of action movies Johansson has starred in the last couple of years (The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Lucy). The Custom of the Country focuses on the Undine Spragg, an ambitious socialite in early twentieth century New York. The novel takes her through the course of her tumultuous attempts to marry rich.
The series is eyeing a run on cable. Christopher Hamptom (Atonement) will pen the script.
