‘Saturday Night Live’ Stefon Movie Would Have Had a Killer Opening

This movie has everything. Seth Meyers, current host on Late Night revealed that the beloved character Stefon who was portrayed by Bill Hader (Barry) on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” had his own movie in the talks. The hot club reviewer’s film was pitched by Meyers and has been revealed to have quite the killer start.

Stefon was a quirky character that was recurring on “Weekend Update”. He would come onto the show telling viewers about the latest and “hottest clubs” in New York City. Let’s just say, he had some pretty interesting and niche recommendations filled with outlandish characters and odd club themes that made Hader giggle live on air.

Meyers, who was a guest on the Podcast Las Culturistas, revealed to current SNL cast member Bowen Yang, and comedian Matt Rogers (Fire Island) that he had pitched the premise to the Stefon movie and opened up as to what that exactly entails.

“It should start with Stefon at Weekend Update,” Meyers explained “and when it’s over, I’m once again disappointed that as the city correspondent, you did not bring, whatever, St. Patrick’s Day tips.’ And he said, ‘Look, to make it up for you, just come out, have a night — me and you together, at Stefon’s New York.’ And I’m like, ‘All right, one night.’’’The pitch then continues on to explain the opening montage to the film that would include “superfast cuts of he and I at all these crazy clubs. And then it would end with me in a body bag. And Stefon would say, ‘He’s dead.’ Then the title splash: Stefon: The Movie.”

While this film, unfortunately, did not come to fruition and has since only lived in the brain of Meyers, he still got the ability to give Stefon a grand finale when Hader departed SNL, filled with all the characters that Stefon had described throughout his Update appearances and even Anderson Cooper (Anderson Cooper 360).

Meyers then reminisces on the importance of the character, and Hader and John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live) who had created him. Meyers said that Stefon and the dynamic between the two “Was the greatest gift to me.”
