According to Deadline, Ryan Murphy, the creator of American Horror Story, has revealed plans to bring longtime collaborator Sarah Paulson (12 Years a Slave, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) back to the hit FX anthology. The 13th season of the series is still expected to premiere in 2025, according to Murphy.
“Sarah Paulson and I are cooking up something cool!” Murphy commented on Instagram, responding to a fan who asked about the future of the franchise.
Deadline states the actress has been a staple of the horror saga since its 2011 debut, where she first portrayed psychic Billie Dean Howard in Murder House. Paulson has since delivered a range of unforgettable performances across nearly every season.
Speaking on Good Morning America last October, Paulson hinted at her potential comeback. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home,” said Paulson via Deadline. “If I could be reunited with Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy, you can pretty much tell me what time I will be there, and I will be there,” Paulson added.
Deadline reports that Paulson’s most recent appearance in the AHS universe came during Season 10’s Double Feature, where she played Tuberculosis Karen and, later, former First Lady Mamie Eisenhower.
Between her time on AHS, Paulson has remained active within the Murphy creative world. She will next appear in Murphy’s Hulu legal drama All’s Fair, alongside Kim Kardashian (Keeping Up with the Kardashians, American Horror Story: Delicate), Naomi Watts (The Watcher, Gypsy), Niecy Nash (Claws, Reno 911!), Teyana Taylor (Hit the Floor, Star) and Glenn Close (Tehran, The Shield), says the article via Deadline.
The actress’s past characters have become cult favorites, including journalist Lana Winters in Asylum, Supreme witch Cordelia Goode in Coven and Apocalypse, and conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler in Freak Show. Her deep connection to the series has made her one of its most recognizable figures.
According to Deadline, her absence from Seasons 11 and 12 left a notable gap for longtime fans. Now, with Murphy’s recent tease and Paulson’s own enthusiasm, the return of a fan-favorite seems increasingly likely.
