CBS is rebooting the cop drama Cagney & Lacey. The series now has its two co-leading actresses roles filled. Sarah Drew (from Grey’s Anatomy) will play as Cagney, and Michelle Hurd (from Blindspot) will play as Lacey. Drew’s character is the nimble, easygoing, and is the protégée to Hurd’s. While Hurd’s character is more athletic and straightforward. They will both play as LAPD detective partners.
For Drew this comes only five days after news came that she would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy. According to Deadline, the Grey’s Anatomy team is being very accommodating for Drew. Because ABC’s medical drama is still in production (her final season with them), they have to be flexible with her filming schedule to be able to do Cagney & Lacey. She spent nine seasons on Grey’s Anatomy playing as Dr. April Kepner.
Hurd’s credits include costarring on season two of NBC’s Blindspot. She has also appeared on FOX’s Lethal Weapon and CBS’ Hawaii Five-O. She has also been on Netflix’s version of Daredevil and Starz’s Ash vs. Evil Dead.
The reboot has been written by Bridget Carpenter and she will executive produce with Rosemary Rodriguez. Rodriguez will also direct the pilot of the show. The reboot originates from the 1980s show which focused on two female detectives. There job is to keep Los Angeles safe. In the 1980s Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly played as the original Cagney and Lacey.
