Though she is better known as Hollywood’s flower child, Drew Barrymore can now be seen on Netflix’s new show titled Santa Clarita Diet, which is an interesting take on zombie movies, since Barrymore is a flesh-eating zombie. Much like the other zombie shows and movies beside it, zombies have become precariously popular these days.
The producers released a trailer and it made light of the zombie apocalypse and showed Barrymore as a zombie but a funny zombie. Co-starring with her is actor Timothy Olyphant, who plays Barrymore’s husband, and Ricardo Antonio Chavira and Richard T Jones.
In the trailer, Barrymore plays a wife, mother and real estate agent who finds herself turning into one of the undead and is rather chipper about it. It turns out that being a zombie has its advantages and it has totally transformed her energy level and her whole persona.
This dark comedy from Better Off Ted producer, Vincent Fresco, is one to watch since it premieres February 3 on Netflix. From the trailer, it is soon to be memorable. Barrymore doesn’t shy away from comedic roles, as she’s played a funny agent on Charlie’s Angels and she has co-starred with Ben Stiller in the 2003 comedy Duplex. Barrymore did have to fend off critics and was even nominated for a Razzie award.
The Santa Clarita Diet will be a comedy that will most certainly raise eyebrows and have people also chuckling in their seats. The funny thing about Barrymore seems to be her straight face comedy lines and when appearing on Saturday Night Live for instance, she portrayed the funniest of characters, giving a bow to other comedic females, such as Tina Fey or Gilda Radner.
Although Barrymore is not classified a complete comedian, she does have the potential and quality to her humor that isn’t dry but refreshing. Her co-star Olyphant is somewhat of a dramatic actor and who knows if he will deliver well in comedy. With his past role coming from Justified, it is likely that Olyphant will have his day in the sun and engage in banter with Barrymore. Santa Clarita Diet’s trailer takes a fascinating look at zombies and hopefully will turn out high ratings for the streaming site.
