Marvel’s highly anticipated Ironheart series has chosen Sam Bailey (Brown Girls) and Angela Barnes (Mythic Quest) to direct the upcoming show, according to Deadline. Ryan Coogler’s (Black Panther) production company, Proximity, will be producing the series.
According to Deadline, Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk) as Riri Williams, an inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Anthony Ramos (A Star Is Born) will also be joining the cast.
Executive producers for the series include Coogler, Sev Ohanian (Searching) and Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer) under the Proximity banner, alongside Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige (Avengers: Endgame), Louis D’Esposito (Iron Man), Victoria Alonso (Ant-Man), Brad Winderbaum (Thor: Ragnarok), and Zoie Nagelhout (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier), per Deadline. Hodge will also serve as head writer.
Bailey has directed six episodes of the Gotham Award-nominated series, You’re So Talented, a series she also co-created which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She has also directed episodes of various series including Alone Togther, First Wives Club, Mixed-ish, Diary Of A Future President, The Chi, Grown-ish, and Dear White People. She also co-created and directed Brown Girls, which was Emmy-nominated.
Barnes has directed for multiple TV series since 2005, including episodes of Eve, My Manny, Gillian In Georgia, Let’s Stay Together, Life In Pieces, Nicky, Ricky, Dick & Dawn, The Quad, Foursome, American Soul, Bigger, Ambitions, Family Reunion, Legacies, Carol’s Second Act, One Day At A Time, Teenage Bounty Hunters, Social Distance, Mythic Quest, and Blindspotting. She has also worked as an assistant director for the hit FX comedy, Atlanta, and will be directing episodes for the show’s upcoming fourth season, according to Deadline.
Coogler’s Proximity Productions has recently produced films such as the Space Jam sequel, Space Jam: A New Legacy. The production company also produced Judas And The Black Messiah, which starred Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), who won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the film in 2021.
