The Paper star Sabrina Impacciatore (Greta e le favole vere, In the Hand of Dante) said on the first day of filming, Steve Carell (The Office, 40-Year Old Virgin) and John Krasinski (The King of Oil, Fountain of Youth) knocked on the door and crashed the set to wish them good luck, according to Deadline. Impacciatore noted that The Office stars Carell and Krasinski were at the studio filming a commercial for the Italian coffee brand, Lavazza.
According to Deadline, before Impacciatore joined the cast for The Paper, she binge-watched NBC’s The Office, commenting that, “Steve Carell became someone that I loved.” Carell had such an impression on Impacciatore that she flew from her native city, Rome, to New York City just to see Carell on Broadway in Uncle Vanya. She met him for the first time after the show in the green room. As soon as she saw Carell, she said, “I’m Sabrina! Can you bless me? I needed his blessing for [The Paper.]” Impacciatore went on saying, “He was the sweetest. He was so warm. He was encouraging me so much. saying ‘These people are brilliant. You are going to have the best experience of your life. You’re going to be great.’ He was giving me confidence. I will never forget that. Never. It was so right to do that.”
Deadline mentioned that Greg Daniels (King of the Hill, Upload) and Michael Korman (Leo, Bad Trip) created The Paper, a mockumentary set within the same universe as NBC’s The Office. The show tells the story of a documentary crew that stumbles upon a historic Toledo newspaper and the efforts of the publisher to revive it.
The Paper will star Domhnall Gleeson (Bucking Fastard, Fountain of Youth), Chelsea Frei (Listless, The Life List), Melvin Gregg (Share?, Story Ave), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Trying, Stump), Alex Edelman (Unfrosted, Saturday Night Seder), Ramono Young (You’re Cordially Invited, The Prank), and Tim Key (Stroke of Genius, Mickey 17), according to Deadline.
